Buy BNB in Germany: three exchanges with a MiCA licence, and the fee that decides

At midday on Tuesday, 100 euros bought 0.150875 BNB at Kraken and 0.150820 at Bitvavo. Once the fee is counted Bitvavo is ahead, and on withdrawal the right network is what matters.

You can buy BNB in Germany with euros at three exchanges whose operators are listed in the MiCA register of the European securities regulator: Bitvavo, Kraken and Bitpanda. On Tuesday, October 27, 2026, at 12:40 p.m., 100 euros bought 0.150875 BNB in Kraken's order book and 0.150820 BNB at Bitvavo, in each case before the trading fee. The gap of 0.000055 BNB is worth four cents. Far larger is the difference between the ways of buying: the purchase costs 0.25 percent as a taker at Bitvavo and 1.49 percent as an instant buy at Bitpanda.

BNB stood at 662.63 euros at that point, the equivalent of $738.42, and with a market capitalisation of 87.14 billion euros it is number four among crypto assets at CoinMarketCap. Over 30 days the price gave up 5.2 percent. The outlook is discussed in our BNB price prediction, the question of when to get in by the analysis Is BNB a good buy at current prices?. This article is about the route from the euro to the coin.

Buying BNB in Germany: three licensed exchanges with a euro pair

Which exchange trades BNB against the euro is something we measured against the public market listings. Of the eight exchanges in our price comparison, four carry a BNB/EUR pair on October 27, 2026, among them the three named above. BNB is therefore listed more narrowly than its rank would suggest, and the reason lies in its origin: the coin was issued by Binance in 2017 and remains closely tied to that exchange to this day.

Since July 1, 2026, the MiCA crypto regulation has applied without a transition period. Which providers are licensed as crypto service providers is kept by ESMA in a register that holds 387 entries on October 27. For the three exchanges named, it states:

  • Bitvavo B.V., licensed by the Dutch AFM on June 26, 2025.
  • Payward Europe Solutions Limited and Payward Global Solutions Limited, the companies behind Kraken, both licensed by the Central Bank of Ireland on June 25, 2025.
  • Bitpanda GmbH, licensed by Austria's FMA on April 9, 2025.

The register is open to the public through ESMA's MiCA pages. An overview of all licensed trading venues, for other coins as well, is in the comparison of the best crypto exchanges.

Kraken against Bitvavo: what 100 euros brings in BNB

We queried the order books of both exchanges in the same minute. The amount is calculated for 100 euros at the best ask in each case, still without the trading fee:

ExchangeBidAskSpreadBNB for 100 euros
Kraken€662.69€662.800.017 %0.150875
Bitvavo€662.70€663.040.051 %0.150820

The spread, that is the distance between the highest bid and the lowest ask, was unusually tight at Kraken at 0.017 percent; on 100 euros that is barely two cents. At Bitvavo it stood at five cents. Both figures are small, because with $1.43 billion in daily turnover across all venues BNB is among the most liquid crypto assets.

At a price above 600 euros you will usually be buying fractions. That is no drawback: Bitvavo carries BNB to eight decimal places, and the fee is calculated as a percentage of the amount, not per coin.

At Kraken and Bitvavo the amounts for 100 euros were only 0.000055 BNB apart.

Taker, maker, instant buy: the fees for BNB at a glance

In the order book you buy either as a taker, who accepts an existing offer straight away, or as a maker, whose limit order waits until someone sells. With an instant buy you accept a quoted price in which the spread is already included. For BNB these rates apply on October 27:

  • Bitvavo: BNB/EUR in fee category A, 0.25 percent as a taker, 0.15 percent as a maker.
  • Kraken: 0.80 percent as a taker and 0.40 percent as a maker in the order book, and 1 percent on an instant buy according to the fee schedule.
  • Bitpanda: 1.49 percent for crypto assets other than Bitcoin, as stated in the cost information document in version 3.0.0 of February 2, 2026.
Exchange and routeFeeon 100 euros
Bitvavo, order book (category A)0.25 % taker, 0.15 % maker€0.25 or €0.15
Kraken, order book0.80 % taker, 0.40 % maker€0.80 or €0.40
Kraken, instant buy1 %€1.00
Bitpanda, instant buy1.49 %€1.49

Once the fee is included, 100 euros leaves you with 0.1504 BNB at Bitvavo as a taker and 0.1497 BNB in Kraken's order book. The better ask at Kraken is therefore more than eaten up by the higher fee. Anyone buying at Kraken does better as a maker at 0.40 percent, but has to place a limit order and wait until it is filled.

What BNB is used for: fees on the BNB Smart Chain

BNB is the coin of the BNB Chain. Anyone who swaps tokens, uses an app or transfers money on the BNB Smart Chain pays the network fee in BNB. That makes the coin the operating fuel of a large ecosystem, much as ether is on Ethereum. On top of that comes a fixed mechanism for reducing supply: part of the BNB is destroyed at regular intervals. According to CoinMarketCap, 131.51 million BNB are in circulation, which is at the same time the entire existing supply.

For buyers in Germany that means: BNB is worth it above all for investors who want to use the BNB Smart Chain themselves, and for anyone who wants exposure to the price of one of the largest crypto assets. Since the licences granted in 2025 there have been three licensed exchanges with a euro pair for that.

Withdrawing BNB: the right network decides

With BNB, the withdrawal is the point where most mistakes happen. Bitvavo pays BNB out exclusively over the BNB Smart Chain, labelled BSC in the selection field, and charges 0.00061 BNB for it, around 40 cents on Tuesday midday. The smallest withdrawal is 0.0016 BNB, a good one euro.

Addresses on the BNB Smart Chain look exactly like Ethereum addresses, they begin with 0x. A wallet therefore has to support the BNB Smart Chain explicitly, and that network has to be selected in the wallet before you copy the receiving address. The common hardware wallets handle this; which ones are suitable for custody over longer periods is set out in our hardware wallet comparison.

The network has to be right on withdrawal: Bitvavo pays BNB out over the BNB Smart Chain.

Minimum amount and fractions: BNB starts at barely five euros

In the BNB/EUR pair Kraken requires at least 0.007 BNB, around 4.64 euros at the time of measurement. Bitvavo sets the lower limit at the equivalent of 5 euros. A whole coin is therefore not needed. Because the withdrawal fee is fixed, it weighs more heavily on small purchases: 40 cents is around 0.8 percent on 50 euros and less than a tenth of a percent on 500 euros. Anyone who buys every month and withdraws once a quarter pays the network fee four times a year instead of twelve.

BNB and tax: one year of holding, a 1,000-euro threshold

If you sell BNB at a profit within a year of buying it, that is a private disposal under section 23 of the German Income Tax Act. It stays tax-free if the sum of all such gains in the calendar year is below 1,000 euros; from 1,000 euros the entire amount is taxed. After a holding period of more than a year the sale is tax-free. Swapping BNB for another coin also counts as a sale for tax purposes.

On September 30, 2026, the German finance ministry presented a draft bill that would remove the one-year period for purchases made from January 1, 2027. It has not been adopted: the cabinet had not passed it as of October 27, 2026, so it is not applicable law. We follow where it stands in our report on the reform of the crypto holding period; what a sale means for tax today is shown by the CryptoTicker tax calculator. None of this replaces advice from a tax adviser.

Buying BNB step by step

  1. Open an account at Bitvavo, Kraken or Bitpanda. All three require an identity check, as anti-money-laundering law prescribes.
  2. Deposit euros by SEPA transfer. Buying in the order book is cheaper than an instant buy; with a limit order just above the bid you pay the maker rate.
  3. Decide on custody. Leave the coins on the exchange, or withdraw them over the BNB Smart Chain into your own wallet, which costs 0.00061 BNB at Bitvavo.
