Dogecoin at a 65-day low: will the $0.0750 level hold?
Analysis: Dogecoin trades at $0.077447 on Saturday midday, its lowest level since August 20. For purchases made in October 2025, the one-year holding period is expiring these days, and with it the option to claim a loss for tax at all.

Here are the facts: Dogecoin trades at $0.077447, or €0.069124, at 12:41 CET on Saturday, October 24, 2026. That is 3.23 percent below the level of 24 hours earlier and the lowest reading in 65 days: the last daily close under this mark dates from August 20, 2026, at $0.074998. The figures come from CoinGecko price history, retrieved on Saturday midday. Our assessment follows further down: the decline carries the marks of a futures-market move rather than a sale out of conviction.
For investors in Germany, more hangs on this date than a round number. Anyone who bought DOGE in October 2025 is sitting on a paper loss of roughly 61 percent, because on October 25, 2025 the price stood at $0.197747. At the same time, the one-year holding period under Section 23 of the German Income Tax Act is expiring for exactly those purchases. Once it has run out, a gain is tax-free, but a loss can no longer be claimed either. This article puts the price in context and shows which check follows from it.
Dogecoin at $0.077447: Saturday's numbers
Over the past 24 hours the daily high was $0.080383 and the daily low $0.076866. The price is therefore trading near the bottom of the daily range. Market capitalisation stands at $12.12 billion, which puts Dogecoin in 12th place among the largest cryptocurrencies by market value. There are 156.46 billion DOGE in circulation.
Across the longer periods the picture is clearly negative: down 3.50 percent over seven days, down 10.01 percent over 14 days, down 15.85 percent over 30 days and down 60.75 percent over one year. The all-time high of $0.731578, reached on May 7, 2021, is 89.41 percent above the current price.
One figure places today more precisely than the percentage alone. Bitcoin shed 1.26 percent over the same 24 hours. Dogecoin therefore fell 2.57 times as hard. That is not an isolated case but the usual relationship for meme coins with a high share of leverage, and it was already a theme on October 15, when DOGE lost 8.6 percent over seven days and Bitcoin only 2 percent.
The last stretch below $0.0774 lasted 54 days
This comparison over time is the part a plain price report does not deliver. Dogecoin last traded below today's level from June 25 to August 20, 2026, measured on daily closing prices. That is 54 consecutive trading days. The lowest point of that phase came on August 7 at $0.069020.
What followed matters more for the context than the low itself: from August 7 to September 23 the price climbed to $0.100359, a gain of 45.4 percent in six weeks. Then the direction turned again. Since October 1, when it stood at $0.094506, Dogecoin has given up a good 18 percent.
For the levels below, that means the next grounded step is the August 20 close at $0.074998, around 3.2 percent under the current level. Below that sits the August low at $0.069020, a further 7.9 percent down. Neither figure is a forecast; they are points at which the price has actually turned over the past four months.
Turnover runs at 3.4 percent of market capitalisation
Trading volume over the past 24 hours comes to $412.05 million. Measured against the market capitalisation of $12.12 billion, 3.40 percent of the stock changes hands in a single day. At Bitcoin the same ratio is 1.39 percent.
This metric is called the turnover ratio, and it shows how much of the total holding is traded per day. A high ratio does not automatically mean buying interest. It says instead that the same stock changes hands more often, which, with a falling price, points to short-term positions rather than purchases with a long horizon. That this trading runs almost entirely through dollar stablecoins is something we showed on October 23: 96 percent of turnover ran through Tether and 0.13 percent through the euro. What has changed since then is the price itself: on October 23 it still stood at $0.078731, 1.7 percent above today's level.
If you want to know how this trading through stablecoins affects your own entry and exit costs, the fee models of the venues available in Germany are set out in our crypto exchange comparison.

The one-year deadline under Section 23 runs out for October 2025 purchases
Here lies the second point of attack alongside the chart, and it is concrete in calendar terms. In Germany, cryptocurrencies count as other assets within the meaning of Section 23 paragraph 1 sentence 1 number 2 of the Income Tax Act. What matters is the one-year speculative period between purchase and sale.
If less than twelve months lie between purchase and sale, the transaction is taxable. A gain is then subject to income tax to the extent that the sum of all private disposal gains in a year exceeds the €1,000 exemption threshold. A loss can be claimed in the same step.
If more than twelve months lie in between, the transaction is not taxable. A gain stays tax-free, and that is the familiar side of the rule. The less familiar side: a loss then becomes irrelevant too. It cannot be offset, carried forward or carried back.
For a purchase made on October 25, 2025, the one-year deadline ends on October 25, 2026. Anyone who bought on that day and is now 60.8 percent down is therefore facing a deadline that passes within days. We track the current state of the political debate about this deadline on our page on the crypto holding period.
Compare exchanges to buy your DOGELoss offset: what happens to a realised loss
A loss from a private disposal transaction has its own offsetting rule, and it is narrow. Under Section 23 paragraph 3 sentence 7 of the Income Tax Act, it may only be set against gains from private disposal transactions, not against employment income, not against investment income from interest or dividends, and not against rental income.
If a loss remains after that offset, it can be carried back to the previous year or forward into later years. It then becomes usable in a future year in which gains from private disposal transactions arise again. Sales that fall outside the one-year period never reach this offset at all. In tax terms, such sales simply do not exist.
What follows is a check decided not by the price but by the calendar. Anyone holding several DOGE purchases from different months has a separate deadline for each tranche. For identical coins in one wallet, the tax authorities generally apply the first in, first out method, meaning the assumption that the units bought first are sold first. Which method the tax office accepts in an individual case is for a tax adviser to clarify, and this overview is no substitute for advice.
How to work out your cost basis for the tax return
The calculation itself is simple; the documentation is the work. Every tranche needs three details: the purchase date, the number of units and the amount paid including fees. The amount divided by the number of units gives the cost basis per DOGE.
An example with the figures from this article: 10,000 DOGE bought on October 25, 2025 at $0.197747 cost $1,977.47. At today's price of $0.077447 the same coins are worth $774.47. The paper loss comes to $1,203.00. Realised before the one-year deadline expires, that amount would be a deductible loss from a private disposal transaction; realised afterwards, it would not.
One point matters for the documentation: what counts is the value in euros on the relevant date, not in dollars. Exchange statements usually carry that value themselves, and the history of your own purchases can be exported as a file at the venues regulated in Germany. If you keep your coins in your own wallet, you need the exchange records as well, because the wallet knows only the balance and not the purchase price. Which wallet offers which export function is shown in our software wallet comparison; the tools in our crypto tax software comparison handle the allocation of tranches.

What the issuance schedule adds to the supply
One point separates Dogecoin from Bitcoin and bears on every longer calculation: the issuance of new coins does not end. The protocol pays a fixed reward of 10,000 DOGE per block, with a block time of around one minute. According to the Dogecoin project site, this fixed issuance has been part of the design since 2014 and is deliberately uncapped.
That works out at around 14.4 million new DOGE a day and about 5.26 billion a year. Measured against today's circulating supply of 156.46 billion DOGE, that is an annual issuance rate of roughly 3.4 percent. The share falls every year, because the numerator stays fixed while the denominator grows, but it never disappears. How the network distributes that issuance to its miners is something we broke down on October 18.
Compare tax tools for your crypto recordsOur assessment: the decline carries the marks of the futures market
From the newsroom's point of view, three documented figures suggest today's decline is driven by the futures market rather than by broad selling in the spot market. First, the ratio to Bitcoin: 3.23 against 1.26 percent, a factor of 2.57. Selling out of holdings would hit both markets similarly. Second, the turnover ratio of 3.40 percent against 1.39 percent at Bitcoin, meaning a far faster throughput of the same stock. Third, the long bias we measured on October 16: four out of five leveraged accounts were positioned long, more strongly than at Bitcoin, Ethereum and Solana.
What argues against it belongs in the same assessment: the turnover ratio alone does not distinguish leveraged trading from spot trading, and the long bias from October 16 is eight days old. No statement about direction for the coming days can be derived from this, and we are not making one. All that can be said is this: the 65 days above the $0.0750 mark ended not with an event but with an outflow that shows up more clearly in the leverage figures than in the holdings.
Dogecoin in the red: loss offset ends on December 31
For the 2026 tax year, only what has actually been sold by December 31, 2026 counts. Anyone wanting to use a loss from a purchase made within the one-year period has until then, and for the oldest tranches the deadline expires sooner. Three steps follow from that:
- Collect the purchase data for your own tranches. For every tranche, take the date, the number of units and the purchase price in euros from the exchange statement. The export functions of the venues available in Germany are listed in our crypto exchange comparison.
- Record the deadline for each tranche. The purchase date plus twelve months gives the day on which a loss becomes irrelevant for tax. For purchases made in October 2025, that day has arrived. The tools in our crypto tax software comparison handle the allocation.
- Secure the records before anything is decided. Archive statements and wallet history, because without proof of the cost basis the tax office will accept neither a gain nor a loss at the reported amount. Which wallet delivers which export is shown in our software wallet comparison.
