Tesla Roadster memes: $6.84 million on Polymarket, memecoin down 95%

The new Tesla Roadster's kickflip moved millions within hours: on Polymarket, in Solana memecoins and in Tesla stock. A week later, only the memes are still running.

The new Tesla Roadster did more than set off a wave of memes on the night of October 15, 2026. It moved money. On the prediction platform Polymarket, traders put 6.84 million dollars on whether the car would reach 60 miles per hour in under one second at its demo in McGregor, Texas. A memecoin called Flying Tesla Roadster climbed to a market value of 7.4 million dollars a few hours after the kickflip and now trades 95 percent lower. Tesla stock rose 4.4 percent in premarket trading and closed the day down 2.1 percent. The memes keep running. The money made up its mind within hours.

What Tesla actually showed on stage, and how to tell that the original clips are real, is covered by our founder Dennis Weidner on his blog: Tesla Roadster: Real or AI? What the Kickflip Teaches. This article looks at the question crypto and stock readers care about: where did the hype move prices, for how long, and who called it right?

Tesla Roadster memes: the key facts

  • October 15, 8:55 pm ET: Tesla shows the Roadster at the SpaceX site in McGregor with a ramp, a kickflip and 0.81 seconds from zero to 60 miles per hour.
  • 6.84 million dollars were traded on Polymarket on that one second. An hour before the start, the price for “Yes” stood at 38.5 percent.
  • At least 64 new tokens with Roadster or Flying Tesla in their name have appeared on DEX Screener since October 14, 44 of them on Solana.
  • Down 95 percent: the best known of them, Flying Tesla Roadster (FTR), since its peak of 7.4 million dollars on October 16.
  • Down 2.1 percent for Tesla stock on kickflip day, even though it traded 4.4 percent higher in premarket and up to 6 percent higher as a token on Solana before the opening bell.

Polymarket and the Tesla Roadster: 6.84 million dollars on one second

The biggest Roadster market ran on Polymarket and asked a simple question: will the car run a live, timed zero to 60 miles per hour in less than one second at the event? The market opened on October 14 and reached 6.84 million dollars in trading volume (Polymarket, acceleration market). It resolved “Yes”: Tesla showed 0.81 seconds, and 0.67 seconds without the usual one-foot rollout.

What stands out is how little traders expected. From the evening of October 14 until 6:30 pm ET on October 15, the price for “Yes” sat between 15 and 23.5 percent. Only in the last two hours before the demo did it move: an hour before the start it stood at 38.5 percent, at 9:30 pm ET at 69 percent and at 10 pm ET at 97 percent. Anyone who bought a “Yes” share for 19.5 cents the day before got one dollar back, a little more than five times the stake. Tesla first unveiled the Roadster in November 2017 and still has not built it. The low price suggests that many traders saw the one second as a promise rather than a measurement.

A second market asked whether the Roadster would stay in the air with all four wheels for at least one second. It drew 0.86 million dollars and also resolved “Yes” at 11:13 pm ET (Polymarket, flight time market).

Polymarket holds no EU authorisation for event contracts of this kind, as the European Securities and Markets Authority ESMA notes in its risk report. What that means for users in Europe is explained in our overview Polymarket and the ESMA report on EU authorisation.

Roadster memecoins: Flying Tesla Roadster loses 95 percent

The best known memecoin tied to the demo is called Flying Tesla Roadster, ticker FTR, and runs on Solana. It has nothing to do with Tesla. Its trading pair on the PumpSwap exchange was created on October 14 at 10:08 pm ET, almost 23 hours before the kickflip. Around 1 am ET on October 16, about four hours after the demo began, its market value reached 7.4 million dollars. On that single day, tokens worth 25.9 million dollars changed hands in this one pool alone. By the afternoon of October 22, the market value stood at 0.35 million dollars (GeckoTerminal, FTR/SOL pool).

FTR is only the best known of many. Three searches for “Roadster”, “Tesla Roadster” and “Flying Tesla” on DEX Screener returned 77 different tokens on October 22. For 64 of them the trading pair was created on or after October 14: 44 on Solana, ten on BNB Chain, four on Robinhood Chain, three on Base and one each on Ethereum, Arbitrum and Cronos. Because the search shows at most 30 pairs per term, the real number is higher. Only eight of the tokens found had a market value above 100,000 dollars. Many simply copy the FTR name onto another blockchain.

Flying Tesla Dogester (DOGESTER)SolanaOct 19$10.8m on Oct 22$10.8m

The second token in the table shows how fast such values flip: at 1 pm ET on October 22 it stood at 1.74 million dollars, two hours later at 0.65 million. The current leader by market value, Flying Tesla Dogester, mixes the Roadster with the dog from Dogecoin. Its market value of 10.8 million dollars sits on only about 280,000 dollars of liquidity in the pool (DEX Screener, DOGESTER/SOL pool). In a pool of that size, a sale of 28,000 dollars pushes the price down by about 30 percent. Market value here is a calculation, not an amount holders could come anywhere near realising.

How memecoins are made and why a name like Tesla guarantees no value is explained in our guide to meme coins. What to check before any purchase, from liquidity to token distribution, is covered in Memecoin rally explained.

TSLA after the Roadster: up overnight, down on the Nasdaq

On the stock market the Roadster was a short flight. Tesla closed on Thursday, October 15, at 362.44 dollars. Because the demo began after the close, the crypto market reacted first: the tokenized Tesla share TSLAx, which trades around the clock on Solana, rose to 377.74 dollars during the night and to as much as 384.08 dollars by 5 am ET, 6.0 percent above the close. In the largest TSLAx pool, 2.83 million dollars changed hands between 9 and 11 pm ET, compared with about 40,000 dollars per hour on an ordinary evening before (GeckoTerminal, TSLAx/USDC pool).

In premarket trading Benzinga reported a gain of 4.4 percent to 378.50 dollars (Benzinga). When the Nasdaq opened at 9:30 am ET, the stock started at 369.15 dollars, never got past 370.50 dollars and closed at 354.72 dollars, down 2.1 percent. 62 million shares traded, more than on any other day in the four weeks before. TSLAx followed to the same level within hours. How tokenized stocks work and who issues them is explained in Solana leads tokenized equities again.

The stock then recovered to 386.47 dollars by October 21. That evening Tesla reported its third-quarter results. On the call with analysts, the word “Roadster” came up fewer than five times and “flying car” not at all, while “SpaceX” did. That is how Polymarket's word markets resolved (Polymarket, earnings call word market). On October 22, TSLA closed at 374.58 dollars, 3.1 percent below the previous day. Tesla Roadster memes: why the likes last longer than the money

While prices and odds were settled within hours, the meme wave keeps growing. Tesla's own Instagram reel of the car driving upside down on the ramp had 2.0 million likes on the morning after the demo and 5.0 million on October 22. Thousands of users rebuild the flying Roadster with AI tools: a grandmother flying over a tailgating BMW, with 377,000 likes, an “iPhone 50” with thrusters under a desk, with 375,000, the forklift of a paving company from Klettgau in southern Germany. Even the White House posted “We really got flying cars before GTA 6” and drew 4.6 million views (White House on X).

Google search tells the opposite story. Dennis Weidner's explainer on the kickflip, in German and English combined, had 6,358 search impressions on October 17 and 816 on October 20, a drop of 87 percent in three days, as measured in his blog's Search Console. The question “real or AI?” had been answered, and search was done with it. For investors, that is the most important number of the week: on Instagram, attention lasts for weeks; in the markets it was priced in within hours. FTR peaked four hours after the kickflip, and the stock's gain was gone when the Nasdaq opened.

What Polymarket expects for the Roadster and a SpaceX Tesla merger

After the kickflip, Polymarket opened new Roadster questions. Traders see a delivery to a customer by the end of 2026 as close to impossible and by the end of 2027 as unlikely. Tesla itself names 2028 for the start of production. Another live demo with thrusters is seen as more likely next spring than this year. These markets are thin: none has more than 6,000 dollars in volume, so small amounts can move their prices.

More money sits on the bigger question of whether Tesla and SpaceX will announce a merger. A total of 1.56 million dollars has been traded across the various dates (Polymarket, merger market). Musk confirmed on SpaceX's earnings call on October 20 that both companies are examining a merger. Together they hold 30,221 bitcoin, 11,509 of them at Tesla. What a merger would mean for bitcoin per share is worked through in SpaceX and Tesla merger with 30,221 bitcoin.

Our view: what to take away from the Roadster wave

The Roadster is a rare case study because four markets could be watched at once on a single evening: bets, memecoins, tokenized stocks and the stock exchange. We take four things from it.

  • Money moves in hours, memes in weeks. If you buy only once the parodies fill your feed, you are buying the second wave of attention, not the first wave of money.
  • A brand name in a token is not a claim. Tesla issues no token. FTR, DOGESTER and the rest are bets that someone will pay more later. What matters is pool liquidity, token distribution and who already held a share at launch.
  • Prediction markets measure sentiment, not certainty. For a full day the majority in the biggest Roadster market bet on “No” and was wrong. Odds are an opinion with money behind it, and in thin markets not much money.
  • Tokenized stocks trade while the exchange sleeps. TSLAx showed the reaction to the kickflip first. In the end the token followed the main market, as October 16 at 9:30 am ET showed.
