Dogecoin news: 21Shares ends House of Doge's service contract for the TDOG ETF
Analysis: on November 5, 21Shares terminated its services agreement with House of Doge for its US Dogecoin ETF TDOG with immediate effect. The fund is too small to matter for Dogecoin, but for holders of the Xetra ETP the licence question remains open.

What is on record: on November 5, 2026, 21Shares terminated its services agreement with House of Doge for its US Dogecoin ETF, ticker TDOG, with immediate effect. That is stated in a mandatory filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) published on Friday. Our assessment follows further down. For Dogecoin itself the step is small. For the company that until October called itself the official corporate arm of the Dogecoin Foundation, it is the third break in three weeks.
One Dogecoin cost $0.0726, or about €0.0651, late on Friday evening, November 6, according to CoinGecko, 1.3 percent more than 24 hours earlier. The news from New York did not move the price. What it did raise is the question of who will play which role around exchange-traded Dogecoin products in future, and that also concerns investors in Germany who hold a Dogecoin security in their brokerage account.
Support Services Agreement: 21Shares terminates House of Doge with immediate effect
The filing is short. Under Item 1.02, the section for the termination of a material definitive agreement, the fund reports in its Form 8-K that 21Shares US LLC, sponsor of the 21Shares Dogecoin ETF, notified House of Doge on November 5 that it was terminating the so-called Support Services Agreement. The parties were the sponsor, the Swiss company 21Shares AG and House of Doge as service provider. The termination takes effect immediately.
According to the filing, the agreement covered research, data, operational support and marketing that House of Doge provided for the fund. In a US ETF, the sponsor is the company that sets up and manages the fund and collects a fee for doing so. The service provider was therefore not at the core of the product; it supplied support work. 21Shares gives no reason. The sponsor terminated the agreement "in accordance with its terms", the filing says, and nothing more. The report is signed by Russell Barlow as chief executive officer of 21Shares US LLC and dated November 6. On the same day the fund added the filing to its prospectus of January 9, 2026, already the eighth supplement.
What the filing does not say matters just as much. It contains nothing about a change of custodians, a change in the fee or a closure of the fund. According to the latest quarterly report, the fund's Dogecoin is held by three US custodians: Coinbase Custody, Anchorage Digital Bank and BitGo Bank & Trust. Administration and cash custody are handled by Bank of New York Mellon. House of Doge was involved at none of these points.
21Shares Dogecoin ETF TDOG: 38 million DOGE and 190,000 shares
The size of the fund is shown in the 10-Q quarterly report as of June 30, 2026, the most recent complete statement. The fund began investment operations on January 21, 2026. At the end of June it held 38,262,002 Dogecoin, bought for $4.24 million and worth $2.76 million on that date. It had 190,000 shares outstanding with a net asset value of $14.53 per share. According to the fund report, net asset value per share fell from $25.66 to $14.53 in the first nine months of the fiscal year, a decline of 43.4 percent.
Valuing the June holdings at Friday evening's price gives about $2.78 million. Whether the fund has created or redeemed shares since then is, by its nature, not shown in the June report. The calculation only shows the order of magnitude: TDOG is a very small fund. On that basis, the annual fee of 0.50 percent of fund assets earns the sponsor just under $14,000 a year. For comparison, across all trading venues tracked by CoinGecko, about $527 million worth of Dogecoin changed hands in the 24 hours to Friday, a good 190 times the fund's total assets.
With sums this small, every service contract carries weight. The filing does not disclose how much House of Doge received for research and marketing. What is clear is that a fund whose annual fees come to less than $15,000 cannot carry an expensive additional partner for long.

House of Doge held 41 percent of TDOG shares
A second pair of figures makes the case unusual. House of Doge was not only a service provider to the fund but also one of its largest investors. In its own quarterly report as of June 30, the company lists 78,000 TDOG shares, bought in April for $1.47 million. Set against the 190,000 shares outstanding in the fund report on the same date, House of Doge held about 41 percent of the fund.
According to the House of Doge report, these shares were fully pledged as collateral for a $700,000 securities loan. We described this on November 3 in our article on House of Doge's Nasdaq exit. If the value of the shares falls, the lender can demand more collateral or sell the shares. When someone sells ETF shares on that scale, market makers take them and, if needed, return them to the fund, which hands over the Dogecoin held against them. This process is called a redemption.
Even a full redemption would barely affect the Dogecoin market: 41 percent of 38 million DOGE is just over 15 million coins, about $1.1 million at Friday's price. For the fund, by contrast, losing its largest shareholder would be a noticeable blow. Whether House of Doge still holds the shares is unclear; the company has not published a more recent holdings report since June.
Compare exchanges to buy DOGE directlyTrademark licence, Nasdaq listing, ETF contract: the third break in three weeks
The termination is the latest in a sequence that began on October 19. On that day the exclusive trademark licence that House of Doge held from the Dogecoin Foundation ended. Since then the company has owed an exit payment of $400,000, due as soon as it has the funds, and must change its company name by December 31, 2026. The details are in our report on the Dogecoin trademark agreement of October 25. The Foundation's new official partner is Dogecoin Labs.
On October 27 Nasdaq then informed the company that it would delist the stock because it had closed at $0.10 or below for ten consecutive trading days. Since November 3, trading in the shares under the ticker HODO has been suspended on Nasdaq. As of November 5, the support work for the US ETF that carries the Dogecoin name has ended as well.
A pattern is also visible at 21Shares itself. The sponsor has already replaced partners on the Dogecoin ETF twice this year. On June 30 it terminated its contract with CF Benchmarks, whose index had until then determined the value of the fund's shares. Since August 27 the fund has valued its holdings using the FTSE Dogecoin Index. At the same time the sponsor switched payment of its fee from weekly to at least quarterly. The termination of House of Doge is therefore the third change to the fund in five months, each one initiated by 21Shares.
Since November 3: Dogecoin down 3.3 percent, HODO suspended from trading
On Tuesday, when Nasdaq suspended trading, Dogecoin cost $0.0751 at midday. On Friday evening it stood at $0.0726, down 3.3 percent. In between came the lowest level since August on Thursday, and on Friday at midday Monero overtook Dogecoin by market capitalization. Market capitalization is the price multiplied by the number of coins in circulation.
Two things are new since Tuesday. First, House of Doge's position has narrowed further: on top of the licence and the stock listing, it has now lost a contract that gave it a role in the regulated market. Second, the broader market has overshadowed the story. Bitcoin stood at $75,949 on Friday evening, 9.1 percent below its level 30 days earlier, while Dogecoin is down 18.2 percent over the same period. A company on the fringe of the Dogecoin ecosystem does not explain that gap; weak demand for meme coins as a whole explains it better.
Another deadline remains open until mid-November. House of Doge wants to hand over the software and infrastructure of the Such app to Dogecoin Labs in exchange for shares worth $4 million. According to the filing of October 23, either side may withdraw if nothing has been completed within 30 days of October 19, that is by November 18.

Xetra ETP CH1431521033: the termination names only the US fund
For investors in Germany, the US fund TDOG is not a product they can normally buy. US ETFs generally lack the key information document that the EU requires for sale to retail investors, so German custodian banks usually reject the order. What can be traded in Germany is the 21Shares Dogecoin ETP with ISIN CH1431521033 and German securities code A4A5WJ, on Xetra and gettex in euros.
Legally, an ETP (exchange-traded product) is a debt security of the issuer, collateralised with deposited coins, rather than fund assets as with an ETF. The issuer is 21Shares AG, and that very company was a party to the agreement now terminated. The filing of November 6, however, explicitly describes the contract as services for the US trust. It says nothing about the European ETP. Since October, the ETP's rights to the Dogecoin name have depended on the non-exclusive licence that the Foundation left House of Doge for three 21Shares products, and that licence in turn depends on the outstanding $400,000 payment.
Holders of the ETP are best served by watching two things: the notices on the issuer's product page, where 21Shares publishes changes to the index, custody or licence, and the gap between the market price and net asset value. If the price on Xetra deviates noticeably from the value of the deposited coins, that is an early sign of unease among market makers. Our guide to buying crypto ETFs in Germany gives an overview of the routes to crypto securities there.
Find a broker for your crypto ETPDogecoin on Friday evening: $0.0726 and 13th place behind Monero
The market itself was calmer on Friday than over the week. According to CoinGecko, the 24-hour range ran from $0.0703 to $0.0733. Over seven days Dogecoin is down 3.6 percent. Its market capitalization is $11.37 billion against $11.61 billion for Monero, leaving DOGE in 13th place among the largest cryptocurrencies.
Trading volume of $527 million in 24 hours is below the $836 million that our Friday midday article cited from CoinGecko data. The market therefore absorbed the news about the ETF contract without additional turnover. That fits the proportions: a contract around a fund with just under $3 million in assets is not price-relevant for a coin with a market value of $11 billion.
Editorial assessment: one service provider fewer, not one Dogecoin fewer
Our assessment: the termination weakens House of Doge, not Dogecoin. Three documented points support this. The fund's coins are held by Coinbase, Anchorage and BitGo, not by House of Doge. Since August the fund has been valued against an FTSE index in which House of Doge has no part either. And with just under $3 million, TDOG's assets are so small that even a liquidation of the fund would barely register in the market.
One point argues the other way, and we do not want to explain it away. The Dogecoin name on regulated products currently depends on a company that has lost its stock listing, owes a $400,000 payment and has now been dropped as a service provider too. Should the Foundation challenge the remaining licence over the unpaid sum, 21Shares would need a new basis for its Dogecoin products. That would be an issue for holders of the Xetra ETP, not for holders of the coin. We explicitly do not derive a buy or sell signal from this.
ETP or direct purchase: 2.50 percent in costs against the one-year holding period
The episode is an occasion to review how you hold Dogecoin. According to the issuer, the Xetra ETP costs 2.50 percent a year, so on an investment of €1,000 about €25 is deducted from its value, whether the price rises or falls. In return the security sits in an ordinary brokerage account and the bank handles the paperwork. In practice, German custodian banks usually treat gains from crypto ETPs as capital income and withhold the flat-rate withholding tax directly.
If you buy Dogecoin directly, you pay one-off trading fees at an exchange but hold the coins yourself or with the provider. For tax purposes, the rules on private disposals under Section 23 of the German Income Tax Act (EStG) then apply: gains are tax-free after a holding period of one year. Our page on the status of the holding period reform summarises where the political debate on this rule stands. Since MiCA, the EU's crypto regulation, providers need an EU licence to serve German customers. Which platforms have one and what they cost is shown in our comparison of crypto exchanges.
Which route suits you depends on your investment horizon. If you want to hold Dogecoin for more than a year, the ETP costs more over time and you forgo the tax exemption after the holding period. If you only want to trade briefly or do not want to manage your own keys, the ETP is the simpler route. Switching costs fees in either direction and can trigger tax, so it pays to look before your next purchase rather than after a sale.
House of Doge: $400,000 still unpaid after three breaks
- Identify the product in your account. Use the ISIN to check whether you hold the Xetra ETP CH1431521033 or another Dogecoin security, and follow the issuer's notices until the licence question is settled. Lower-cost alternatives are listed in our comparison of crypto brokers.
- Weigh costs against tax. Set the ETP's annual costs of 2.50 percent against the tax exemption after one year with a direct purchase. One of the programs in our comparison of crypto tax tools keeps track of purchase dates and holding periods for you.
- Buy directly only on a licensed exchange. If you switch to the coin, buy on a platform with a MiCA licence; the overview is in our exchange comparison. The next date in the House of Doge case is November 18, the end of the deadline for handing over the Such app.
