Curve Finance launched its StableSwap exchange on the Stellar mainnet on October 29, 2026. It is the first deployment Curve runs natively outside the EVM world, meaning outside those blockchains that can execute Ethereum's program code. Curve and the Stellar Development Foundation announced the launch jointly. Two things change in practice: swap pools can now be created and used on Stellar, and the announced foreign exchange component, FXSwap, is not part of it yet.
The price barely reacted. XLM traded at $0.1718 on October 29, up 0.45 percent over 24 hours (CoinGecko). The protocol's token, Curve DAO Token, stood at $0.3334 and was 0.58 percent lower. Anyone reading a price jump into this news is reading more than the data supports. The launch is interesting for a different reason: it changes what you can technically do on Stellar, and with it what you need to check beforehand.
StableSwap on Stellar: pools appear without approval
Curve's core is live. Users can create their own liquidity pools on Stellar, browse existing pools, swap assets and provide liquidity. Nobody needs approval from the Curve team for that. It has been that way at Curve for years and was carried over to Stellar.
A liquidity pool is a contract on the blockchain into which several users each deposit two or more tokens, out of which other users swap, and whose depositors share in the swap fees. There is no order-book trader in between; the price follows the ratio of the deposited amounts.
Pools appearing without approval is a strength and a risk in one sentence. The strength: a developer can create a trading venue for a token pair without waiting for an exchange. The risk: a pool that somebody set up is not a vetted product. Token names can be copied, and a pool with little capital moves sharply in price on any larger swap. The official interface sits at stellar.curve.finance; any other address sent to you is not.
Stellar does not run an EVM: Curve rebuilt its pools
Stellar is not EVM-compatible. Contracts written for Ethereum, Arbitrum or Base do not simply run there. Curve therefore had to write its own version for this blockchain instead of reusing the existing code. That is the difference from the many deployments of recent years, in which the same contract was placed on another EVM blockchain.
Technically that is the more interesting part of the news, and it has a practical flip side: newly written code has no operating history. The versions on Ethereum have been running since 2020 and have attacks, market crashes and bug reports behind them. The Stellar version still has all of that ahead of it. That is not an accusation. It is the nature of any first day.
What separates StableSwap from an ordinary swap pool
StableSwap is built for assets whose prices track each other closely: two stablecoins on the same dollar, wrapped Bitcoin variants, synthetic representations of the same underlying. The price curve is flatter in that range than in an ordinary pool, which makes the price difference on a swap smaller. Pairs that move against each other, euro against dollar for example, need a different curve. FXSwap supplies that, and FXSwap is not here yet.
FXSwap is still missing: Curve names the audit as the condition
According to the announcement, FXSwap is to follow on Stellar once the audits are complete. The announcement gives no date, names no auditor, and no audit report is available. Anyone waiting for foreign exchange trading on the blockchain waits longer.
That is the most honest summary of where things stand today: the part that would fit Stellar as a payment and foreign exchange network best has been announced but not shipped. Curve founder Michael Egorov justifies the opening to blockchains without an EVM mainly with demand from institutional addresses, according to a report by CoinCodex; Denelle Dixon, head of the Stellar Development Foundation, points out in the same report that stablecoins and tokenised assets only develop their use once they can be swapped between easily. Both are the reasoning of the parties involved, not evidence of success.

Curve by the numbers: $1.43 billion in the pools, Stellar not yet listed
Curve's pools held around $1.43 billion on October 29, 2026, according to data from DefiLlama, the clear majority of it on Ethereum with roughly $1.10 billion. Stellar does not yet appear in that breakdown on the day of the launch. That is to be expected when pools are only just forming, but it shows the gap between announcement and market liquidity.
DefiLlama lists the blockchain itself with about $231.5 million in value locked at the same moment. For comparison: the same data set shows roughly $45.9 billion for Ethereum. Stellar is a small venue in the world of decentralised finance, then, even though the network has a long history in payments.
A sober expectation follows for practice: deep pools do not appear on day one. As long as little capital sits in a pool, every larger swap costs noticeable price. That holds for every new market, Stellar or not.
Find a hardware wallet for your XLMStellar price and CRV on October 29: $0.1718 against $0.3334
XLM stands at $0.1718 on October 29, 2026, according to CoinGecko. That is 0.45 percent more over 24 hours, 3.94 percent less over seven days and 26.42 percent less over 30 days. Market value is around $6.05 billion, rank 19 among all crypto assets, on daily turnover of about $124.9 million.
Curve DAO Token trades at $0.3334, 0.58 percent lower than the day before, 9.96 percent lower than a week ago and 17.34 percent lower than a month ago. Its market value of roughly $528 million corresponds to rank 107. A protocol with $1.43 billion in its pools carrying a token worth about a third of that has been the case at Curve for years and is not a consequence of today's news.
Levels up and down
XLM's daily range ran from $0.1670 to $0.1747 over the past 24 hours. Above $0.1747 the day's high would be cleared, below $0.1670 the day's low. These are measured levels from live trading, not a forecast. The monthly loss of 26.42 percent shows which way the trend has run since the end of September; a single product announcement rarely turns that around.
Access from Germany: Curve has no MiCA licence and needs none
Curve is not a company with customer accounts but a collection of contracts on a blockchain. The European MiCA regulation addresses providers of crypto services that hold customer funds or run trading on behalf of customers. Anyone who self-custodies and swaps directly with a contract on the blockchain is not using such a provider. That is why you will not find Curve in the BaFin register or in the ESMA register. It follows from the scope of the regulation, not from a lack of diligence. What MiCA requires of licensed providers is set out in our overview of the MiCA obligations.
In practice that means there is no deposit protection, no complaints route to a supervisor and no claim to compensation if a contract fails or you hit the wrong address. At a licensed exchange you have a counterparty with obligations. At a pool on the blockchain you have the code.
The route to the tokens themselves still runs through a licensed exchange as a rule, because euros do not enter the network via Curve. Only after that does the part Curve handles begin.

Tax on every pool swap: a disposal under Section 23 of the German Income Tax Act
Here is the point that is missing from the English-language coverage and that counts most for you in Germany. Swapping one crypto asset for another counts as a private disposal under Section 23 of the German Income Tax Act. That also covers the swap of one stablecoin for another, even when both are denominated in the same dollar and the value barely changes. A gain then usually arises only from movements of the dollar against the euro and from the difference to the acquisition cost, but for tax purposes it is an event that has to be documented.
The holding period is decisive. If more than a year lies between acquisition and swap, the gain stays tax-free. Below that, the exemption threshold for private disposals applies; once it is exceeded, the entire annual gain from these transactions is taxable, not only the amount above the threshold. Every swap in a pool starts a new period for the token received.
Anyone providing liquidity in a pool receives pool shares and later a share of the fees. How deposit, pool share and redemption are to be classified for tax is disputed in parts, and the number of events quickly becomes hard to track. A tool that can read pool transactions saves you work and argument here. For your own situation the tax adviser remains the right contact, because this article is no substitute for advice.
Find a crypto tax tool for your pool swapsCustody on Stellar: MetaMask adds the network to its default selection
To swap on Stellar you need a Stellar account, not an Ethereum address. Shortly before the Curve announcement it became known that MetaMask, together with the Stellar Development Foundation, is adding the network to the wallet's default selection, in the app and in the browser extension. Existing users receive a Stellar address derived from their existing recovery phrase, according to the CoinCodex report; anyone who already holds a Stellar account can import its phrase.
That lowers the barrier to entry and at the same time shifts responsibility to you. A recovery phrase that now opens several networks is a bigger target than before. Anyone keeping it on the machine they also swap on has given up the separation between key and internet. How software wallets handle keys is shown in our software wallet comparison.
One peculiarity of Stellar remains in place: accounts on the network require a minimum reserve in XLM that stays locked as long as the account exists, and additional positions raise that reserve. Anyone starting with a very small amount will find that not everything is freely available. Check the required reserve in your wallet before you transfer an amount that barely exceeds it.
Providing liquidity: fee shares and the risk in the pool
A pool pays its depositors a share of the swap fees. Against that stands the shift in the composition of the deposit when the prices of the tokens it holds diverge. With StableSwap pairs this effect is small as long as the prices stay close together. It becomes large as soon as a stablecoin loses its peg, because then everyone swaps into the stable side and the weak one stays in the pool.
There is also the risk of the code itself. The contracts on Stellar are newly written, an audit report for the foreign exchange part is still missing according to Curve, and a pool can be created by anyone. Anyone providing liquidity carries both risks at once: that of the market and that of the technology. Fee income on a young network with $231.5 million in value locked is unlikely to pay well for that commitment at first.
What can move the price of XLM and CRV now
Three developments are measurable and worth watching. First, liquidity in Curve's Stellar pools, visible as soon as DefiLlama lists the blockchain in the protocol's breakdown. Second, the audit for FXSwap: once an audit report appears with a name and a date, the announcement becomes a product. Third, distribution via MetaMask, because a network in a large wallet's default selection reaches more users than one that has to be added by hand.
What is not an argument: a price target without a calculation. XLM sits 26.42 percent below where it stood 30 days ago, and none of the three developments above changes that in the short term. A product announcement creates possibilities, not inflows.
Curve on Stellar: no FXSwap without the audit, no depth without pools
StableSwap is running, the foreign exchange part is not, and liquidity has yet to form. If you want to take the launch on board, do it in this order:
- Settle custody before money moves. Decide where the keys for your Stellar account live, and keep the account's minimum reserve ready. For larger holdings the key belongs on a dedicated device; the models are in the hardware wallet comparison.
- Check the pool, do not just read the name. Open the interface only via stellar.curve.finance, look at how much capital sits in the pool, and work out the price difference for the amount you want before you swap. In thin pools that is the largest cost item.
- Record every swap straight away. Date, amount, euro equivalent and fee per transaction, including swaps between two stablecoins. A tax tool reads the transactions out and saves the rework in spring.
