Sui in October 2026: A High-Performance Chain Resetting Its Valuation
Sui traded at around $1.05 on October 21, 2026, a steep discount to the highs of the previous cycle, when the chain, founded by former Meta engineers, was briefly regarded as the most credible Solana alternative. Technologically, the foundation remains exceptional: the Move programming language and Sui's object-centric data model allow parallel transaction processing without a global ordering requirement, enabling high throughput at stable fees and making it especially suited to gaming, payments and complex asset logic.
A technological edge, but an unlock overhang
Sui's strengths: a top-tier engineering culture, a growing DeFi and gaming ecosystem, and infrastructure innovations such as zkLogin that enable Web2-like onboarding. The weaknesses: the share of tokens still awaiting unlock remains high and creates structural sell pressure, while network revenue doesn't yet support the ambitious valuation. The risk-reward profile is that of an early-stage technology leader - above-average upside in a market recovery, but sensitive to unlock waves and competition for developer attention.

What is Sui (SUI)? The Sui token explained
Sui is a blockchain for fast applications such as payments, games and decentralised finance, and SUI is its token. It was developed by Mysten Labs, a company of former Meta engineers led by Evan Cheng who had worked there on the Diem blockchain project. The main network has run since 3 May 2023.
Sui manages data as individual objects rather than account balances. Transactions touching different objects therefore run in parallel, and simple transfers are confirmed in a fraction of a second. Developers write in the Move language, which also comes from the Diem project.
What is the SUI token used for?
SUI pays fees, secures the network through staking and is used to vote on changes. Anyone who delegates SUI to a validator receives a share of the rewards.
How many SUI are there?
The supply is capped at 10 billion SUI. About 4.12 billion are in circulation, just over 41 percent (as of 24 October 2026); the rest unlocks step by step according to a fixed schedule.
SUI is listed on the major crypto exchanges, in the EU also on providers licensed under MiCA. Which ones they are and what they charge is shown in our crypto exchange comparison; how to store coins safely afterwards is explained in our guide how to store crypto.

What actually moves the Sui price
Sui uses an object-based data model instead of a classic account balance. Transactions that don't touch each other are processed in parallel - allowing high speed without a queue and making it particularly well suited to games and applications with many simultaneous users. Despite ongoing token unlocks, Sui ranks among the most active layer-1 ecosystems.
Most recently, stablecoin liquidity has led the growth: from August 31 to October 21, 2026 it rose 35 percent to $567 million according to DefiLlama, while capital locked in applications, at $516 million, stood around 80 percent below its October 2025 record. Whether new demand absorbs the additional supply is the central question for any Sui forecast.
The metrics we watch for Sui
- Unlock calendar: the most frequently cited criticism. Scheduled unlocks continuously bring supply to market - we weigh them against demand growth.
- On-chain stablecoin liquidity: the gauge for whether serious capital is actually deployed.
- Holder distribution: a substantial share sits with the team and early investors.
- Fee revenue: separates genuine usage from subsidized activity.
Where this forecast could go wrong
If unlocked supply outpaces demand, that weighs on the price regardless of technical quality. Sui also lacks - like all networks of its younger generation - a complete cycle history; our curves are therefore deliberately kept flat.
