The GoDaddy of the crypto world: Portal Network

Portal Network aims to be a one-stop solution for creators and businesses interested in creating decentralized websites, as well as trading/bidding domains across multiple blockchains. Just like how GoDaddy revolutionized the traditional DNS (Domain Name System) market, Portal Network aims to utilize the power of the blockchain to help prospective users create their first decentralized website, along with taking advantage of subsidiary tools like their in-house domain marketplace, and easy-to-use website builder.

Insights from Portal Network’s Founder

In an exclusive with CryptoTicker interview, Christopher S, the founder of Portal Network, shared his thoughts about the current blockchain space.

I think the blockchain world has too many traders and not enough connecting parties facilitating the need to promote user adoption. Blockchain technology is only useful when there is a balanced ecosystem of users and developers alike. Through the evolution of the web 1.0 and web 2.0, there was an increased emphasis on businesses and individuals alike to utilize a unique, customized domain name. Essentially, Portal Network is building web 3.0 with decentralized domain names.

Web 3.0?

Portal Network aims to convert the hashes of a blockchain, which is a random series of numbers and alphabets into a name that is easier to understand. For instance, utilizing Ethereum Name Service, a random hash such as (2ne8db38db9ak2m) can be easily converted into a (.eth) website similar to web 1.0 and web 2.0. However, what’s more, is that this website would be built on the Ethereum, ICON, and Wanchain protocols, and would also be hosted on IPFS with free storage. These domains are also free to build and host with customers only paying for associated gas costs.

The Future of Portal Network

By establishing strategic partnerships with numerous established companies like Wanchain, Bluezelle, and Ethereum.org, Portal Network is helping them develop various protocols like the EIP 1062 protocol for Ethereum.org to help them develop their code. For those who are not familiar with the EIP 1062 protocol – it is an improvement proposal for formalizing IPFS hash to ENS resolver. They are also focussing on organizing hackathons like the recently concluded Korea Hackathon in Seoul with the purpose being to promote the usage of blockchain technology (IPFS and ENS) to create decentralized websites.

When asked about any plans for upcoming ICO/token sales, Christopher responded that there is no token sale planned at this point but more news will be released in mid-August so stay tuned for their updates!
