Hyperliquid buybacks against the sell-off: HYPE tests $76 as the Assistance Fund holds 48.7 million tokens
Analysis: Hyperliquid (HYPE) has fallen 7.8 percent with the wider market to around $77 and is testing the $76 level. Our data shows how much the Assistance Fund, holding 48.7 million HYPE and buying back daily, is pushing back.

The Hyperliquid price has fallen 7.8 percent over the past 24 hours to around $77 (as of Friday morning, 4:50 a.m. German time, roughly €69). On Thursday the daily low reached $76.15, and the daily close of $76.59 was the lowest since October 25. Whether the $76 area holds depends less on Hyperliquid itself than on Bitcoin: the entire crypto market is under pressure.
What is established: Hyperliquid's Assistance Fund holds 48.7 million HYPE, the platform automatically converts its trading fees into HYPE according to its own documentation, and the long side of the futures market is still paying a positive funding rate. Our assessment follows further down. The buybacks slow the selling pressure, but they do not turn the price against a falling market.
cryptoticker.io compiled this analysis itself on November 6, 2026. It is based on public data from the Hyperliquid blockchain: the balance of the Assistance Fund's system address, open interest across all perpetual markets, 168 hourly funding rates from the past seven days and daily prices for the past 400 days. We added the protocol's daily revenue as reported by DefiLlama.
HYPE price drops to $77: daily low just above the October range
HYPE is the token of the Hyperliquid trading platform. Hyperliquid runs its own blockchain, on which mostly perpetual futures are traded: futures contracts with no expiry that are kept in line with the spot price through a regular settlement payment. HYPE serves as the fee and staking token there.
According to CoinGecko, HYPE trades at $77.19. Over the week it is down 15.0 percent, and over 30 days also around 15 percent. The all-time high of $97.96, set on September 23, is therefore a good 21 percent above the current price. Market capitalisation stands at about $18.5 billion with a circulating supply of 239.4 million HYPE.
Thursday's trading shows the force of the move. HYPE opened November 5 at $83.78 and closed at $76.59, a daily loss of 8.6 percent. Friday started more calmly, and by early morning the price had moved between $76.48 and $78.23.
A market slide, not company news: Bitcoin and Ether drag Hyperliquid down
There is no Hyperliquid-specific trigger for the decline. HYPE is falling in step with the wider market. Bitcoin lost 5.8 percent in 24 hours to around $75,900, Ether 8.0 percent to around $2,230, and XRP, Solana and Cardano each shed roughly 7 percent (all figures from CoinGecko). The downturn was set off on Thursday afternoon by a sell-off in US chip stocks on the Nasdaq, which we reported on November 5.
On Hyperliquid, a day like this hits twice. The platform lives off trading leveraged products, and in falling markets leveraged long positions are forcibly closed. These liquidations briefly lift trading volume and therefore fees, but they also push prices lower because the closed positions are sold.
Since the team payout: the $76 level has held once
On Thursday afternoon we reported on the payout of 180,000 HYPE to the Hyperliquid team and named $76 as the line below which the chart picture breaks down. Since then the price has run straight to that level: the daily low was $76.15, and the close of $76.59 sat just above it. So the level has been tested, not broken.
What is new since Thursday is the scale. The team payout amounted to 0.075 percent of circulating supply and was too small to explain the decline. The pressure has come from the wider market since then, and it has cost HYPE around $7 since the start of the week: the close on November 3 was still $85.08.

Hyperliquid Assistance Fund: 48.7 million HYPE in the system address
The Assistance Fund is Hyperliquid's buyback vehicle. According to the fee page of the Hyperliquid documentation, it uses its own system address and converts trading fees into HYPE fully automatically as part of on-chain processing. The documentation also states that HYPE in the Assistance Fund is burned, meaning permanently removed from both circulating and total supply.
Our analysis of the system address shows a balance of 48,719,413 HYPE. At a price of $77.10 that is worth about $3.76 billion. On top of that there is only about $728 in USDC, so the fund keeps almost all of its assets in HYPE and converts incoming fees promptly.
For investors this is a counterweight to unlocks from the vesting schedule. Under the platform's rules, every token that lands in the system address never returns to the market. How strong this counterweight is, however, depends on ongoing revenue.
HYPE buybacks from trading fees: how many tokens daily revenue buys
According to DefiLlama, Hyperliquid generated revenue of $2.72 million on November 5. Over seven days it was $17.06 million, and over 30 days $68.88 million. The 30-day average is $2.30 million a day; in the 30 days before that it was $2.42 million, about 5 percent more.
At the current price of $77, daily revenue of $2.72 million would buy roughly 35,300 HYPE, assuming the entire amount goes into buybacks. Thursday's 180,000 HYPE team payout therefore equals a little more than five days of buybacks. At today's price, the revenue of the past 30 days would buy about 894,000 HYPE, or 0.37 percent of circulating supply.
One mechanism works in holders' favour: when the price falls, the same dollar amount buys more tokens. At $70, Thursday's daily revenue would already buy about 38,900 HYPE. Conversely, revenue drops when less is traded after a crash. The slight decline in the 30-day comparison shows that this effect is already setting in.
Compare the best perp DEXs for leveraged tradingHyperliquid open interest and funding rate: longs keep paying
Open interest is the value of all outstanding futures contracts in a market. For HYPE perpetuals on Hyperliquid it stands at 22.2 million HYPE, about $1.71 billion at the current price. That makes HYPE the third-largest market on its own platform, behind Bitcoin at $3.06 billion and Ether at $2.15 billion. Across all Hyperliquid perpetual markets, open interest adds up to around $10.1 billion, of which HYPE accounts for 17 percent.
The funding rate is the settlement payment between long and short positions, which Hyperliquid charges every hour. When it is positive, buyers pay sellers. For HYPE it was positive in all 168 hours of the past seven days, averaging 0.0023 percent per hour. Most recently it stood at the base rate of 0.00125 percent per hour, just under 11 percent annualised.
The figures fit a market in which many traders are betting on a recovery even as the price falls. For the price, that is a double-edged signal: a large long overhang can trigger additional forced selling if prices keep falling. Only a negative funding rate would mean that most positions are positioned for falling prices.
If you want to trade HYPE with leverage, the comparison of perp DEX platforms sets out the fees, leverage limits and security features of the main providers side by side. At five times leverage, a decline of just under 20 percent is enough in theory to wipe out the posted collateral; because of the maintenance margin, liquidation kicks in earlier in practice.
Hyperliquid buybacks in context: a brake, not a reversal
Our assessment: the Assistance Fund steadily reduces the supply of HYPE, but it does nothing to change the direction set by Bitcoin. The numbers support this. Around 35,000 HYPE of daily buying power compares with daily volume of more than $850 million in the HYPE perpetual on Hyperliquid alone, so the buybacks account for only a small share of trading. They take effect over months, not on a crash day.
Against this view: the buybacks collect more tokens when prices fall, and every token collected disappears from the market for good. If the wider market holds current levels, HYPE supply could shrink faster than it grows through unlocks from the vesting schedule. We do not derive a price target from this. Like any crypto asset, HYPE can be highly volatile, up to and including total loss.
HYPE chart levels: the October low and the 50-day line
The first support is the area around $76 that the price tested on Thursday. Below it lies the October low of $74.36 from October 24, which the price left behind within five days at the time. If that level also gives way, the next calculated support is only the 200-day line at $67.78, about 12 percent below the current price.
On the upside, the 50-day line at $85.58 is the most important hurdle. The price is about 10 percent below it. Just above that sits the daily high of November 4 at $88.80; only a close above this area would end the decline that began in late October. We calculated both moving averages from the daily closing prices of HYPE perpetuals on Hyperliquid.

Buying HYPE, perpetuals and tax: what applies to German investors
The EU's Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation, MiCA, has applied since December 30, 2024. Providers that sell or hold crypto assets in Germany need a licence as a crypto-asset service provider. Before you buy HYPE on an exchange, it is worth checking whether the provider has this licence. Hyperliquid itself is a decentralised platform without a MiCA licence; there you trade through your own wallet and handle custody yourself.
For tax purposes in Germany, the holding period under Section 23 of the Income Tax Act is what counts: if you sell HYPE within a year of buying it, the gain is taxable once all private disposal gains for the year together reach €1,000. After more than a year, the gain is tax-free. Losses from a sale within the holding period can be offset against gains of the same kind. With perpetual futures you do not hold any coin, so the holding period does not help there.
If you hold staked HYPE, you should know the unstaking waiting period before trying to react to a price slide: during that time the tokens cannot be sold.
Find the right MiCA-licensed crypto exchangeHyperliquid below $77: without a Bitcoin recovery, $74 stays in view
The Assistance Fund keeps collecting HYPE, but these days the direction is set by the wider market. Three steps help you sort out the situation for your own portfolio:
- Review leverage: if you hold HYPE perpetuals, compare your liquidation price with the October low of $74.36. Fees and leverage limits of the providers are listed in the perp DEX comparison.
- Choose how to buy: if you want to buy HYPE without leverage, look for a MiCA licence. The comparison of the best crypto exchanges gives an overview.
- Record purchase dates: every single purchase counts for the holding period. A crypto tax tool documents purchase dates and losses for your tax return.
