Update 25 September 2026: $ME staking works differently today than described in the original guide from December 2024. Since 1 February 2026, Magic Eden sends 15% of its revenue into the $ME ecosystem, half for buybacks and half as monthly USDC rewards for stakers, and wallet linking moved from the ME Foundation to Magic Eden itself. This guide now explains the current model first and keeps the original quest system from 2024 below as background.

How does $ME staking work in 2026?

Staking $ME is still the entry ticket to Magic Eden's rewards program. You choose an amount and a lock-up period in the rewards dashboard, and longer lock-ups earn a higher multiplier on your staking power. According to Magic Eden's help center, the Believer tier, for example, carries a multiplier of 1.12.

The big change is where the rewards come from. In January 2026, Magic Eden announced on X that from 1 February 2026, 15% of all platform revenue would flow into the $ME token ecosystem. That share is split evenly:

  • 50% for $ME buybacks on the open market.
  • 50% for stakers, paid in USDC according to staking weight, which depends on the amount staked and the lock-up duration.

The USDC rewards can be claimed monthly, starting with the February rewards in March 2026, and have to be claimed within 90 days. Magic Eden CEO Jack Lu put the marketplace's revenue for 2025 at about $24 million; at that level, 15% would mean roughly $3.6 million a year for buybacks and staker rewards combined.

Staking also gives you a vote. Your voting power equals your staking power, and stakers can vote on ecosystem proposals in the governance tab of the rewards dashboard.

Step by step: how to stake $ME today

  1. Get $ME on Solana. $ME is a Solana token, so you need a Solana wallet that holds it.
  2. Open the rewards dashboard on Magic Eden and connect your wallet.
  3. Choose amount and lock-up period. The longer the lock-up, the higher your multiplier and your share of the USDC rewards.
  4. Link additional wallets on Magic Eden. The old ME Foundation linking tool has been retired, and wallets linked there are no longer connected.
  5. Claim your USDC rewards every month, and no later than 90 days after they become available.

How did $ME staking work at launch in December 2024?

When this guide was first published, the system was far more complicated, and at the time 11.37% of all circulating $ME was staked. Staking alone did not earn rewards. Instead, it was part of a two-step system in which staking power and quest participation together decided the payout.

Staking power was calculated as $ME staked multiplied by a factor that depended on the lock-up duration. A stake of 100 $ME locked for 120 days, for example, carried a multiplier of 2.55 and therefore a staking power of 255. Higher staking power helped users climb the rankings.

Quests were specific on-chain activities that added points to a ranking score. Typical quests in December 2024 were using the Magic Eden wallet once a week, making swaps of at least $5 (up to four per week), buying a collectible in the mobile app and trading NFTs or tokens. They were listed in the Magic Eden mobile app under "Explore".

Rewards were paid at the end of each 90-day "Chapter" according to the user's rank percentile: top 1%, top 10%, top 50% and everyone else. Higher ranks earned proportionally more, but Magic Eden did not publish the exact amount per rank, which frustrated many users. Rankings reset after every Chapter.

The original guide named two weaknesses: the system was complicated, and reward allocation was not transparent. The switch to a fixed revenue share with USDC payouts addresses both points, at least on paper.

What changed at Magic Eden in 2026?

The staking overhaul came in a difficult year for the company. In spring 2026 Magic Eden closed its Bitcoin and EVM marketplaces, shut down its multi-chain wallet and refocused on Solana and a new iGaming platform called Dicey. The token has not recovered either. $ME reached its all-time high of $17.00 on its launch day, 10 December 2024, according to CoinGecko. On 25 September 2026 it traded at about $0.077, more than 99% lower, with a market capitalization of around $48 million. USDC rewards do not protect stakers against that price risk: anyone who locks $ME for a long period cannot sell during the lock-up.

Is staking $ME worth it?

The current model is simpler and more transparent than the quest system of 2024: rewards come from real platform revenue and are paid in a stablecoin. Whether it pays off depends on two things you cannot control, Magic Eden's revenue after the 2026 cuts and the $ME price during your lock-up. Stake only what you can leave untouched for the full lock-up period.
