The five areas head to head
AI AnalysisFees & Costs
The website is free to use, as is a basic API allowance — simple usage does not even require a key. Higher call rates, commercial usage rights and extended endpoints are organised across several paid tiers up to an enterprise tier. Plan tiers and pricing change several times a year in practice and should be checked directly with the provider before subscribing. As of August 2026.
A free tier gives access to basic metrics and public dashboards but sharply limits the historical window. Full history, the advanced metrics and API access are reserved for paid tiers, plus an enterprise tier on request. Annual billing lowers the monthly rate. Plan tiers and pricing change several times a year in practice and should be checked directly with the provider before subscribing. As of August 2026.
Usability & User Experience
The dashboard is clean and beginner-friendly and the documentation thorough; an API explorer makes it easy to try queries. As of August 2026.
The interface is built for professional use and assumes interpretive knowledge — without background in on-chain metrics much of it stays opaque. There is no mobile app. As of August 2026.
Features & Offering
Beyond prices and rankings, CoinGecko covers DEX data, on-chain liquidity, NFT floor prices, DeFi protocol data and metrics on developer activity and community engagement. Output is JSON with CSV export available, and a demo API is provided for testing. As of August 2026.
The focus is on-chain indicators: entity analysis, UTXO metrics, miner data, exchange inflows and outflows, profit and loss metrics and supply dynamics, rounded out with derivatives metrics. Custom dashboards can be built in the studio, with data exported by CSV or pulled through the API. As of August 2026.

Verdict
Both providers are practically level in our overall rating (4.8 to 4.7).
CoinGecko covers largely the same ground as CoinMarketCap but differs on one point that matters when assessing market data: the provider is not owned by an exchange. Anyone wanting to read volume and exchange data without that conflict has the structurally cleaner reference here.
In substance CoinGecko goes further in places: DEX data, on-chain liquidity, NFT floor prices and metrics on developer activity and community engagement are integrated. Basic API usage does not even require a key, which noticeably lowers the barrier for small projects.
The paid tiers target applications with higher call volumes and commercial use. Plan tiers and pricing change several times a year in practice and should be checked directly with the provider before subscribing. For deep on-chain analysis CoinGecko, like every aggregator, is the wrong address — specialised tools exist for that.
Glassnode answers questions a price chart cannot. How much Bitcoin sits with long-term holders? Are coins flowing onto exchanges or away from them? What does the profit and loss picture across the market look like? Analysis runs at entity level — addresses are grouped into economic actors, which raises the signal considerably over raw address statistics.
The offering targets advanced users. The free tier is enough to look around but is limited to basic metrics and a very short slice of history — and with on-chain analysis, history is where the value sits. Full data history and API access are reserved for the paid tiers. Plan tiers and pricing change several times a year in practice and should be checked directly with the provider before subscribing.
There is no mobile app: Glassnode is a desk tool. Anyone unable to interpret the metrics cleanly pays for data they will not use, so working through the research material first is worthwhile.
