Hyperliquid’s HYPE Token Soars 60% After Massive Airdrop

On November 29, Hyperliquid surprised its community with a huge airdrop of over 300 million HYPE tokens. Hyperliquid just pulled off one of the biggest airdrops in DeFi history with its massive genesis event on November 29. They handed out an incredible 310 million HYPE tokens to their community, making waves across the crypto space.

At launch, the HYPE token was priced at $3.90, valuing the entire airdrop at a jaw-dropping $1.2 billion. But the excitement didn’t stop there—within about 12 hours, the token’s price skyrocketed by 63%, climbing to $6.16. With its market cap now approaching $2 billion, this airdrop is turning heads and setting new standards in the world of decentralized finance.

Hyperliquid is a next-generation layer-1 blockchain built on a proof-of-stake system, designed to handle an impressive 200,000 transactions per second. At the core of its ecosystem is the HYPE token, which plays a dual role—it’s used for staking to support the blockchain’s consensus and serves as the gas token for HyperEVM, its Ethereum Virtual Machine-compatible layer.

In its big launch event, Hyperliquid distributed 31% of its total 1 billion HYPE tokens to the community. The rest of the supply has been carefully allocated: 38.8% is set aside for future rewards and emissions, 6% goes to the Hyper Foundation treasury, and 0.3% is reserved for grants.

Core contributors are also getting their share—23.8% of the tokens—but with a catch. These tokens are locked for a year, and the vesting period stretches out until 2028. Interestingly, Hyperliquid has taken a unique approach by not allocating any tokens to private investors, centralized exchanges, or market makers, keeping the focus firmly on its community-driven vision.

Hyperliquid has earmarked 388.88 million unused HYPE tokens for community rewards and emissions, underscoring its dedication to fostering an open and inclusive network.
