What is Aavegotchi? How do you play Aavegotchi? Full Guide

The world of gaming and NFT has recently seen a big surge. Combining different important crypto and DeFi concepts to the applicable world is definitely where crypto investors are looking at. In fact, this is how the future cryptocurrencies and NFTs are going to shape up, through trial and error. In this article, we’re going to talk about what is Aavegotchi, and how to play Aavegotchi.

What is Aavegotchi?

Aavegotchi is an NFT game on the blockchain, based on Tamagotchi. Remember those small black and white devices where you used to play and feed your virtual pet? This is exactly what this project is, but adding NFT to the mix. Aavegotchis are NFTs themselves that you can buy. Every Aavegotchi is unique and has individual properties. The rarer the characteristics of an Aavegotchi, the rarer and more valuable it is.

The characteristics of the Aavegotchis can be continuously improved during the course of the game. Depending on how much time and money you invest in your Aavegotchi, the rarer it will be. It’s about making different interactions with your Aavegotchi. You can pet it, put on new clothes, feed it or play minigames with your Aavegotchi.

Aavegotchis are of course not only valuable as collectibles. You can continually receive rewards in $GHST with your Aavegotchi. So-called “rarity farming seasons” take place at regular intervals. In each round, you can receive rewards for the rarity, loyalty, and experience of your Aavegotchis.

Ranking lists are published for each of the categories and based on these ranking lists, the rewards for each Aavegotchi are determined. The rewards come from the portals sold, clothing items and also from all Bazaar sales.

Further elements and functionalities will be added in the future. In this way, an entire metaverse should be created in the next few months, which you can populate with your Aavegotchis.

Aavegotchi – How to Play step-by-step Guide

1. Create a Metamask Wallet

To use Aavegotchi, you need an ETH address. It is recommended to install the Metamask extension for Chrome. Open the extension and use it to create a wallet. First, you have to create a password. You will use this later to open Metamask in your browser. Then a secret key will be generated for you. This key enables you to open your wallet (even without your password).

The key always consists of a sequence of words. Write them down carefully and make sure that you can keep this key in a secret, safe place. In the next step you will have to confirm these words in the correct order in order to activate your wallet.

As soon as you have completed this, an ETH address has been generated for you. This is your public address to which you can also send your tokens.

2. Buy Cryptocurrencies

To be able to play Aavegotchi we first have to buy cryptocurrencies. Here’s a quick guide on how to Buy Bitcoins on Binance. It is preferable to buy Ethereum and Polygon there and send them to the Ethereum Blockchain. Or you can buy Binance Coin and Polygon and send them to the Binance Smart Chain.

The advantage of the Binance Smart Chain is that it is currently cheaper. Its disadvantage though is that it is not pre-installed in Metmask. So you have to install and setup the Binance Smart Chain in order to do this step.

3. Add Polygon in Metmask

Aavegotchi is played on the Polygon Blockchain. In order to use the Aavegotchi app, you have to teach Metamask to communicate with the polygon blockchain. By default, only Ethereum is available there. A user-defined network can be added to this in the Metamask settings.

So that everything works, you need the following data:

Network name: Matic Mainnet
New RPC URL: https://rpc-mainnet.maticvigil.com/
Chain ID: 137
Currency Symbol (optional) : MATIC
Block Explorer URL (optional) : https://explorer.matic.network /

4.Send Ethereum (or other coins) to Polygon

This step is also known as Bridging. In order to be able to use the tokens on the Polygon Blockchain (old name: Matic Mainnet), you must first send them to the Polygon Blockchain. So-called “bridges” are used for this. For example, you can switch from the Ethereum Blockchain to the Polygon Blockchain via a bridge. You can currently send tokens from the Ethereum Blockchain and the Binance Smart Chain to the Polygon Blockchain.

You can find a bridge with which you can migrate your tokens from Ethereum to Polygon at https://wallet.matic.network
There you simply click on “Move funds to Matic Mainnet”:

You can then choose which token you want to migrate to the Matic Mainnet. Migrate your polygon ($ MATIC) tokens there. You pay for this promotion with your Ethereum token. You can also bridge many more tokens to Polygon.

The bridging works completely similar to 4.1., Only that you pay for the migration on the Binance Smart Chain with your Binance Coins and not with your Ethereum token. It is cheaper to switch from the Binance Smart Chain to the Polygon Chain than from the Ethereum Blockchain to the Polygon Blockchain.

5. Buy tokens on the Polygon Blockchain

You now have tokens on the Polygon Blockchain and can use decentralized exchanges there. You now always pay all fees with $ MATIC. That is why it was important to send them to the Polygon Blockchain. Because without $ MATIC you can’t do anything there.

The two largest decentralized exchanges are Uniswap (Ethereum Blockchain) and Pancake Swap (Binance Smart Chain). But the largest decentralized exchange on Polygon is Quickswap (Polygon Blockchain).

It is advisable to buy some $ MATIC here in order to be able to pay the fees for all future transactions. With 1 MATIC you can currently carry out over 1000 transactions.

Of course, you also have to buy a few GHST tokens in order to play Aavegotchi. $GHST is the currency of Aavegotchi and it is required to buy a Gotchi or other NFTs.

6. Connect with Aavegotchi

Now you have something $ MATIC and something $ GHST on your polygon blockchain. Now we’re ready to go.

Go to https://aavegotchi.com/ and connect your metamask. Your available GHST will be displayed directly on Aavegotchi:

Now you are ready and can get started with Aavegotchi right away. The first thing you’ll want to do is buy an Aavegotchi.

How do I get an Aavegotchi?

Aavegotchis are summoned from portals. There are 10 Aavegotchis to choose from in each portal. Only one of these can be summoned for use in the game.

Every few months there are events called “Haaunts” at Aavegotchi. At these events, portals can be bought directly from Aavegotchi with the $ GHST tokens.

So you buy a portal with your $GHST token and from this portal you summon an Aavegotchi.

You first open your portal and then you have to choose an Aavegotchi in your portal. Now you have to get the appropriate stake (“spirit force”) in order to be able to summon it.

In this example we conjure up an Aavegotchi for which maUni has to be staked. The best thing to do is to get the minimum amount you need from maUni on Quickswap. But you can always stake more than required. As soon as you have picked up the maUNI, you can add it to the Aavegotchi wallet using the “Input Stake amount”. Then you can summon the Aavegotchi.

When that’s done you are now the owner of an Aavegotchi NFT!

However, these portals are very limited and the demand is high. So it will not always be possible for all players to get a portal from a Haaunt.

That is why there is the bazaar. Portals and aavegotchis can be bought and sold by other players in the bazaar.

We can access the bazaar with the following URL: https://aavegotchi.com/baazaar/. To get an Aavegotchi you can either buy closed portals, open portals or directly Aavegotchis:

You can choose different sortings in each menu in the bazaar in order to narrow down the selection for you. For portals these are the following options:

In most cases you will sort the bazaar according to the “Lowest Price”. So you can find the best offers straight away.

Which portal or which Aavegotchi should I buy?

There are many different approaches to this. In order to assess what the best portal or Aavegotchi is for you, let’s briefly look at the properties of the Aavegotchis and their benefits:

Each Aavegotchi has different characteristics (“traits”), loyalty (“kinship”), experience (“XP”) and a “stake” in various other cryptocurrencies (“spirit force”).

Almost all of these features can be improved as the game progresses. The rarity value of the Aavegotchis (“Rarity Score”) is also determined depending on the characteristics.

You can find a good overview of all these parameters for the Aavegotchis in the official wiki at https://wiki.aavegotchi.com/de/traits

The still unopened portals differ only in the Haaunt in which they were generated and which token ID they have. When a portal is opened, the aavegotchis it contains are generated randomly. So you never know beforehand what exactly you will get.

With the open portals, you can already see which properties the Aavegotchis is equipped with and can therefore make sure that your portal contains an Aavegotchi that meets your requirements when buying. If you select an offer from an open portal in the Bazaar, the Aavegotchi options will be displayed directly to you:

In addition to the rarity value of every Aavegotchi in a portal, the required “Spirit Force” is also displayed. The rarer an Aavegotchi, the more “Spirit Force” is needed to summon it.

Aavegotchis that have already been summoned can also be bought at the bazaar. For this, it is important to also look at the «kinship», «XP», which included «Spirit force», the name of the Aavegotchi, as well as the items in the NFT wallet of the Aavegotchi. The higher or better these values, the more the Aavegotchi is worth.

Information about the individual parameters:

  • Name: The names of Aavegotchis are all unique.
  • Rarity Score: The rarity score is made up of the properties of energy, aggression, spookiness, brain size, eye shape, and eye color.
  • Loyalty («Kinship»): An interaction with the Aavegotchi can be made every 12 hours, which increases loyalty by 1 point. If no interaction is made in 24 hours, loyalty is reduced by 1 point.
  • Spirit Force: The number of tokens staked for the Aavegotchi
  • Characteristics (“Traits”): The more extreme a property, the rarer it is. The further away it is from 50, the more extreme a property is. Thus, very deep and very high property values are best. All in all, the properties make the Aavegotchi a rarity.
